Why Do We Have To Wear School Uniforms

Dear Mr Wadsworth & Mrs D,

Why is it necessary to wear school uniforms?  Does it make any difference to our learning if we are wearing a yellow T-shirt or a pink one. No,it does not. The majorette of the class thinks that we should be able to wear what ever we want to school.Us kids have came up with a few solutions instead of wearing school uniform every day.

How Much Oxygen is in the Air?

We conducted an experiment to test how much oxygen is in the air.
When you light a candle in open air it will last for quite awhile, that's because it has lots of oxygen to feed off. When we put the jar over the lit candle it only has 20% of oxygen accessible, so it slowly started using up all the oxygen in the jar. When the candle has used up all the oxygen the candle went out that's because there is no more oxygen to keep it burning. Because we put the jar slightly over the teaspoon it left a little jap for the water to rush in and replace the 20% space that the oxygen was. The space is quickly replaced with water. if you looked closely at the experiment you would see that the water is slowly rising inside the jar that's because it is slowly replacing the oxygen.

Cricket Craziness

This week, a representative from NZ Cricket came along to Te Puna School to teach our two classes a few skills and techniques. By the end of the session we were pretty impressive at 'windmills' (bowling) and our catching skills were sharp!

Beach Ed Day @ Omanu Surf Club

We had a great day today with Danielle & Seth from Surf-Lifesaving NZ. They ran us through the Beach Ed programme, which has messages around being sunsmart, developing surf awareness (especially being able to identify rips) and generally having heaps of fun at the beach while staying safe.

Mixed Media Portraits

This week we have been creating mixed media portraits from photographs. The portraits are split into four pieces and worked on using paint, pastel, magazine collage and coloured pencil. When put back together, they have a really cool effect.
